Ohio Allows for a parent to voluntarily surrender their child, not older than thirty days, without intent to return for the child, to an in-person safe haven provider or a newborn safety incubator.
Union Township is proud to support parents and children. You may choose to raise your child, place your newborn for adoption, or relinquish your newborn to a Safe Haven, either in person or anonymously. If you choose an anonymous surrender, Union Township has a Safe Haven newborn incubator available for you at Fire Station 50, located at 1141 Old State Route 74.
What is Safe Havens for Newborns?
Not all women who get pregnant are ready to raise a child. Safe Havens provides a new option. It allows a parent to leave an infant (up to 30 days old) with:
- a medical worker in a hospital;
- a medical worker at a fire department or other emergency service organization; or
- a peace officer at a law enforcement agency; or
- A newborn safety incubator.
If you need additional information regarding your options, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services provides great information regarding resources to help raise your newborn, how to make an adoption plan or information regarding safe haven options.
You can view their information at the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Website.
