Cooking with Rita

Love Starts in the Kitchen, is the dynamite collaboration between Union Township Television and Rita Heikenfeld, CCP, CMH, one of the midwest’s premier chefs. Rita is an award-winning syndicated journalist, accredited family herbalist, author, cooking teacher, and media personality. She is listed in Who’s Who in American Women, Who’s Who in the Midwest, and Who’s Who in American Education for her culinary and community achievements. Rita is an adjunct professor at The University of Cincinnati and is Macy Department Store’s regional culinary professional. Rita is from a large family where gathering in the kitchen was the focus of every get-together. She brings that love of merging family and food to Cooking with Rita, where, every couple weeks, she makes magic happen in our kitchen. From holiday specialties to cooking for a crowd to making spa products from her herb garden, Rita has become a favorite, not only for her skill in presenting tasty and beautiful dishes, but for her knowledge of healthy benefits of today’s foods and herbs. She will teach you something every time, even if you’re just watching to learn how to put that gorgeous salad together. Join Rita and her occasional guests on UTTV. Because, above all, you will have fun! Check the schedule for dates and times.

Crime Talk

As our first production, Crime Talk is one of the crown jewels of UTTV’s program line-up, tackling some of today’s toughest law enforcement issues through actual case presentation and educational segments. Host Jeff Brown, of the Union Township Police Department Investigations Unit, invites fellow detectives to discuss open cases, with an eye for resolution through viewer feedback and information. In educational segments, Detective Brown interviews police officers from other units, as well as representatives of community businesses who have partnered with the UTPD in crime-prevention endeavors. Always relevant in a world where crime trends can change as quickly as a TV schedule, Crime Talk presents topics “ripped from the headlines,” to quote a popular network program. Following the Lancaster County school tragedy, Detective Brown interviewed UTPD School Resource Officer Jim Brown to educate the public on school lockdown procedures. And after contrasting national spikes in prescription drug abuse against local crime statistics, a recent edition of Crime Talk featured Officer Josh Bail, head of the UTPD Pharmaceutical Diversion Unit, and local pharmacist, Don Padgett. Crime Talk is aired several times each week, so there is no reason to miss out on timely information from your police department.

Fire Chat

Fire Chat is our newest regular series. Fire Chat introduces you to the faces behind the scenes at the Union Township Fire Department and brings the men and women who are here for you every day into your living rooms. Host Captain Perry Gerome interviews guests in the studio, concentrating on educating the public on the myriad of services the department offers. The cameras also follow firefighters and paramedics as they do inspections, conduct training classes, and, most importantly, jump up at a second’s notice for an emergency run. Captain Gerome and his guests will provide tips that are relevant to everyday living, such as how to manage a kitchen fire and how to conduct a home fire drill. More targeted seasonal safety information will come in handy at Halloween and Christmas, as the experts provide guidelines for child safety and Christmas decoration installation. Your fire department is not just a responder. As Chief Stanley Deimling states in the first episode of Fire Chat, the department makes it a priority to be proactive in educating township residents on how to avoid emergency situations. The lessons you learn from Fire Chat could make all the difference in life-and-death situations. Fire Chat is aired several times each week. Look up the times by doing a search on the title in our schedule section, and get ready to learn some things you never dreamed of!

Painting with the Masters

With the addition of Painting with The Masters to our lineup, UTTV has once again hit pure gold. Local portrait artist Carin Hebenstreit was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States with her family. Even as a child in Munich, she exhibited artistic talent. After her art education here in Cincinnati, Carin and her husband, Bob, also an artist, moved to Madrid, Spain to further her career in the arts. At the Prado, she studied Velasquez, Goya, Rubens and Tiepolo. The influence of the masters has greatly affected Carin's work as a portrait artist, where she has focused her talent for more than 20 years (although her landscapes and still life paintings are included in many private collections across the country). Her work has been exhibited in many fine art galleries and public spaces, including Closson's, The Cincinnati Art Galleries, Cincinnati Music Hall, The University of Cincinnati Law College, The Bahmann Foundation and The American Golf Association. Carin painted the official portrait of Max Rudolf, the late music director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, as well as many other notable Cincinnatians. In our new series, Carin will take the viewer from her blank canvas to a finished portrait ala the masters who created such timeless masterpieces. In this continuing series, the serious or even casual artist (portrait or otherwise) will be guaranteed to learn something new each time Carin is at the easel. Even if you are do not paint but are simply an aficionado of art, color and texture, Carin will make your creative senses come alive with her skill. Join us for this refreshing look at the world of portraiture and oils. You will be happy you tuned in!
