Administration

Assistant Chief Jeff Jackson is in charge of the Administrative Division of the department. The responsibilities of the administrative division include budget and finance, payroll, accreditation, quality assurance, fire and emergency medical services data entry, policy implementation and development, life safety, scheduling, monthly and annual reporting and documentation, licensing, information technology management and other general day-to-day non-emergency needs of the department.

The department also has a physician who is responsible to oversee and underwrite the emergency medical service operation of the department. Dr. Hollynn Larrabee is the department's medical director and works closely with the Administrative Division to ensure the citizens are receiving the best possible care.

Operations

The Operations Division is the largest division within the Union Township Fire Department and is comprised of the personnel who respond to emergency incidents from four fire stations strategically located throughout Union Township. Assistant Fire Chief, Gary Auffart, is responsible for ensuring a rapid, professional, and competent response to, and control of, a wide range of emergency incidents by the Union Township Fire Department, and oversees the division with the assistance of captains. The shift captain on each shift supervises and is responsible for all the personnel, reports, fire stations, equipment, and incidents for his/her shift. Members assigned to a fire station serve in dual roles as both firefighters and paramedics and are responsible for providing the best fire suppression and emergency medical services possible.

Training

Assistant Chief Gary Auffart is responsible for the overall direction and management of training for the Union Township Fire Department and reports directly to the fire chief. A station lieutenant serves as our training officer and manages most of the day-to-day training issues. Training is conducted daily, usually by the company officer conducting a hands-on morning drill and then again in the evening with a book-type drill. Every Tuesday, a special EMS continuing education class is conducted. As a State of Ohio-certified EMS training site, members are awarded continuing education credits necessary for paramedic recertification. Special topics classes such as Hazmat Refresher courses are also conducted throughout the year to keep our members trained to the highest level possible.
