Dear Chief Deimling, You went out of your way. What a nice way to be! Thanks for the tour. Rachel Hawthorne

To Chief Deimling, I work at DRS Mobile Environmental Systems on McMann Rd. Shortly after 6 PM on the evening of December 23, 2008 I slipped on an ice coated side walk in front of our building and two EMTs from the “water tower station” at 860 Clough Pike came to the rescue. These two members of your team transported me to the Anderson Mercy hospital emergency room. I was diagnosed with a broken humerus and ultimately had repair surgery. I am a few months late with this note but just wanted to say thank you to the EMTs that came to help. Their assistance that night was greatly appreciated. Ken Deaton

Fire Department

Letter to the Editor of the Community Journal: I wonder if the people behind the effort to dissolve Amelia have thought about the issue of response time from police and paramedics. A few nights ago, my daughter was choking on a jawbreaker and we called 911. Officer Murrell, of the Amelia Police, was at our door in two minutes. The EMTs of Union Township were there shortly behind. I didn't think about it until the next day, but if I live in Pierce Township, what can I expect in response time from a police department that is not just right down the street? I love the small town feel of Amelia. I love the feeling of safety with police patrolling our neighborhood. And my family means everything to me. The unknown is what concerns me most when considering what's best for them. I know what I have living in Amelia, especially after needing emergency assistance. I don't know what to expect if the village is dissolved. How long will I have to wait for help for my daughter? She is great by the way and the response team was incredible. I urge everyone to think about their own family when considering whether to dissolve Amelia. I certainly will. Tara Kelley Quail Brace Court Amelia

Jenny Carey, Administrative Assistant

Dear Chief Deimling, In the spirit of the Administrative Professionals holiday this past week, Clough Pike Baptist Church would like to thank Jenny Carey for her continued assistance and partnership with us. For the past three years, Mrs. Carey has helped us with our monthly service of preparing and delivering dinner to one of the township's fire stations. The members of our congregation who organize and cook these dinners consider Mrs. Carey an invaluable asset. She schedules the dates for the dinners every month, and she also confirms the date, time and number of workers we will be feeding the day before we come. Jenny represents Union Township's Fire Department well: her courtesy, promptness in replying to our needs, and eagerness to be helpful make her a joy to work with. Please pass along to Mrs. Carey how much we appreciate her help. We wish her - and all opf your employees - a safe and successful 2009. Sincerely, Greg Brockman Chairman of Deacons Clough Pike Baptist Church

Lt. Carraher and FF Huff, FF McHale and FF Deems

Dear Chief Deimling, I want to thank Lieutenant Kevin Carraher, and Firefighters Rusty Huff, Matt McHale and Greg Deems for their hospitality to my grandchildren, Ella Henry, age 5, and Jordan Gravett, age 3, their mothers, and I on Monday, June 1, when we visited their fire station on Ohio Pike. Fulfilling my promise to take the children to visit a fire station, I called Lieutenant Carraher to arrange it. He was most friendly and said that he and his men would be waiting for us at 6 p.m. When we got there, all four men greeted us and showed wonderful care and concern for the children - showing them the ambulance, fire trucks, and even the living quarters. They explained things in such a way that the young children could understand and appreciate what they were being taught. The children were thrilled. It was a most memorable expreience for them. Their mothers were impressed with the patience and care shown to the children. As a retired police officer, it was entertaining to swap "war stories" with the firefighters. You can be proud of these men and their dedication to their duty and the citizens they serve. Please extend our heartfelt thanks to them. Sincerely, Charles Horstman Ella Henry Jordan Gravett

FF Milligan and FF Honnert

Chief Deimling, We just wanted to take a minute to thank the life squard personnel on duty Friday, June 19, at about 11:30 a.m. One of the paramedic's name was John and we cannot remember the driver's name (sorry). They arrived to the Subway Restaurant located at the Eastgate Wal-Mart within seconds of the call. They were very professional in assessing Eric's condition and were so good with Eric, making him feel at ease and comfortable. Our son, Eric (17 years old), just had surgery on June 4 for an Aortic Arch Reconstruction. He was released from the hospital on June 8 and we were just returning that morning from Children's Hospital for a follow-up with the surgeon. We were told Eric was doing very well and everything looked fine and we were to follow up again in two weeks. We stopped by Wal-Mart on the way home to pick up a prescription and grab something to eat. While paying at Subway, Eric collapsed onto the counter. I called 9-1-1 and my husband (whom I knew was in the area). The Life Squard arrived within seconds. The two paramedics on duty were very accommodating to take Eric back to Children's Hospital. That was probably the best decision we made, since they had all the records on Eric's condition. While in the emergency room, Eric's blood pressure dropped to 40/20 in his left arm and they immediately took him back to the trauma room. We have never seen so many doctors and nurses in one room. They took an X-ray and compared it to the one taken earlier that morning and ran several other tests. After several hours, they released Eric and sent him home. Later that evening, the cardiologist on-call called us at home and changed Eric's medicine. They believe Eric's passing out was due to the medicine, Lasix, he was having to take since his surgery. After decreasing his dose, Eric is now doing fine. Thank you once again for all your help. Will and Sandra Wiederhold and Eric
