Pierce Township Fire Department

Lt. Childs, FF Ruby and Bellingham

In response to a survey sent after a fire call, the department received the following:

"To the men who responded to my call,

On February 16, 2010, I had an electrical fire in my home.  Until then, I had never had a reason to call for help.  Though the fire had gone out by the time you arrived (thankfully), you all made me feel safe with your quick and thorough response.  The chief helped me get  in contact with the electrician I needed and even returned later to make sure I had been taken care of.  Though I hope that call is the only time I will ever have to call, I feel safe knowing you all will be there if we ever need you again.

Thanks and be safe,

Amber Hunter

A thank you card to the fire department had the following hand-written message added:

“We just wanted to extend our gratitude towards each of you that helped our family during one of the greatest trials in our life. Each and every member that was in our home January 27, 2010, really helped us to cope a little easier. It is never easy to lose a family member, but comforting to know people like you all exist in our community. Again, thank you for all you do in the community, but most importantly, thank you for your professionalism, strength, support and comfort for our family. God Bless. Sincerely, Jerry Blanchard and Family”

Union Township Fire Department Station 50

On February 11, 2010, the Union Township Fire Department Station 50’s water rescue squad saved Buddy, the mixed breed pet of Julie and John Tople. Buddy had wandered onto a frozen pond and couldn’t get back. Here’s what the Toples had to say:

“Thank you and your fellow fire fighters for your help today. Buddy is doing well. All is well at the Tople house.”

John Tople

“Thanks to all of you that rescued Buddy. What a great group of guys you are. We are so lucky to live in a community with a fire department that is professional and caring. Buddy is doing great, thanks to all of you. Many Thanks.”

On January 11, 2010, Ms. Kaylee Cobine came in person to the U.T.F.D. Station 51 and read the following to the firefighters on duty:

“To all the firefighters who risk their lives everyday:

I want to say thank you for all you do for me and the people around me. You guys don’t get thanked enough for what you do. You guys are always there, we just don’t always realize. You are silent heroes. You never want the glory or the fame, just the feeling of knowing you saved someone. It means the world to me, and a lot of others, for everything you do for us. You put your life on the line for us every day and never complain when things or times get rough. I have always looked up the firefighters, the ones who we couldn’t go a day without. I feel very honored, special and thankful to know that I have you guys watching over us and making sure we are always okay. Without you, things wouldn’t be as good, and life wouldn’t be as easy. I could say thank you a million times, but that would never be able to repay you for the things you have done for us. You guys are our heroes, our home town heroes. You have so many people’s respect, and you have well earned the respect given. I am very proud to live in a country where we have the opportunity to have you guys around, and to have the heroes we do along side us every step of the way. You have saved the lives of men and women that you don’t even know, putting them before your own safety. We all value and greatly appreciate the things you do for us and our communities. You all know and have seen the dangers that being a firefighter have and can bring, but yet you all still have the courage and dedication to still go into a burning building and save the men and women in there when you know every time it might be your last. I want to thank you so much, and I have LOTS of respect for what you do for us. Thank you.

“To all the men and women who have lost their lives for us: I want to thank you as well. You are heroes in my eyes. You gave your life for another. It’s truly dedication and I am grateful to know that you were there. Rest in peace.”
